Our College has a full fledged counseling center for the students. It is managed by, Dr Ms. K. P. Sundari Professor of Psychology. In the Center there is provision for Psychological testing, Counseling and guidance. In addition college has also have appointed a professional counselor Mrs. Pallavi Puntambekar who is present in the premises twice a week to deal with student problems.
Our psychologist deals with 1-2 cases of counseling everyday. She deals with a wide variety of cases on regular basis. Some students approach her for vocational guidance and aptitude testing. Some of the major problems that are dealt with in the center include psychotherapy and analysis for psychiatric disorders like - Schizophrenia, MDP - manic depressive psychosis, Depression, Obsessive compulsive disorders, Conversion hysteria, Suicidal thoughts and attempts, Addictions, sexual abuse and so on. Because of the social economic background of our students there are some unique problems for our students. many of the students are come from distributed and unhappy home environments which itself causes many psychological problems.
Student also seek the help of the counselor for improving their concentration and memory. The other area in which student require help is the field of interpersonal relations. Many of them are confused regarding the development of close interpersonal relations and require help for the same sometimes exam stress also makes the students take the help of the counselor. Thus day by day the number of students who require and ask for help is on the rise.
